Here's the presumed logic behind this request for the monarch to come out of his gold cage and intervene to end the current political crisis facing the nation: If HM publicly issues his royal 'invitation' to the two main protagonists to appear before him with the view to hammering out their disagreements peacefully and thereby averting the looming prospect and likelihood of violence and confrontation, but one of the invitees refuses or ignores the royal wishes, then that party will certainly be subjected to the public's judgement and or condemnation. 

But, equally critical, if the initial request or call upon the monarch to act during this hour of need [something the constitutional monarch is duty-bound to do in his role as Supreme Commander and Head of the Nation as cited in the national motto of 'Nation, Religion and King'] and this call is to no avail too, then who is going to face the wrath and judgement of the public and nation, if not the monarch himself? 

It would be a great shock if HM were to act in accordance with the wishes and will of the overwhelming majority of his largely unprotected and long-suffering 'subjects', for contrary to many among the latter's wishful thinking and sentiment, acting in defense and or protecting them from any harm is not among his uppermost royal prerogatives or priorities at all, and we have witnessed next to nothing since he ascended the throne to dissuade us from believing otherwise, except where he was staged or instructed by his CPP minders from behind the scenes as was the case when the two parties needed the face-saving pretext provided by the 'royal intervention' to end the National Assembly boycott following the opposition's [and civil society groups'] charges and allegations of vote rigging in 2013 by the ruling party. In fact, it was most likely that a series of behind the scenes negotiations between the two camps had already paved the way for the boycotting to end - long before any CPP sponsored 'academic' or spokesman made his appearance on RFA to demand the royal intervention!

I have often alluded to the CPP regime's need and use of this facade or pretense as being integral to their propaganda and the political legitimacy this pretense adds to their standing and slogan in the eye of the nation's still ill-informed voters and population dwelling in rural regions and isolated villages where CPP administrative apparatus still remains firm and entrenched. No other social institutions encapsulate this illusion and make-belief ruse than the 'Khmer' monarchy under the CPP regime, or do so more detrimentally to the nation's health on account of its treacherous nature, and more insidious or reprehensible for its patent lack of courage and social conscience in the face of overwhelming pain and destruction. Thus, the perception by some that the monarch acts in the main out of self-preservation and opportunism, rather than in regard to the supreme interests of the Nation is not too far-fetched or too remote from the truth.

But, the worst thing is: no one is really forcing the monarchy to conduct itself in this way. Its hands are tied only by its own narrow opportunism and self-interest; the kind that awards privileges and material opportunities to a handful individuals, but deprives and robs millions of even the most basic of rights as human beings.
