Thai
sports authorities have threatened to keep their country's kickboxers
away from the May 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia after the hosts
said they would use the Cambodian term Kun Khmer for the ancient
martial art instead of Muay Thai, the Thai name for their national sport
that is also used internationally. Cambodian authorities added insult
to injury in the long running dispute over the origin of Southeast Asian
kickboxing when they declared their nation the "cultural owners" of the
sport. Muay Thai won recognition by the Olympics in 2021 and is being
considered as a future Olympic event.

Khmer empire created that martial art of "prodal Serey" aka now Kun Khmer.
But we should not generate friction with Thai. The negative impact outweighs the good impact.
The Thai stole alot from Khmer but always act shocked when Khmers called them out for it. That is including theft of land and culture. Much more theft than the evil Yuon, but Khmers are always focus on the evil Yuon only. If not the evil Yuon than the chinese. In line with what the west would dictate. Any Khmer who even cares should focus on everyone, not just the evil Yuon and chinese. I always had hope that Khmer would focus on thai first, then the evil Yuon because thais are the biggest crooks of land and culture. Remember these thais also shot and kill Khmers at the borders. Khmers should have settle the score against these thais a long time ago. Khmers would have been better off for it and wouldn't rely or trust the evil Yuon.
