Eight people, including four children, were killed in the Cambodian tourist town of Siem Reap when a fire tore through its popular night market, police said.
AFP reports that the children, aged between nine and 14, were sleeping with their families on the upper floor of a building on the premises when the fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, Sath Nady, chief of police in the northwestern Siem Reap province said.
He said: 'Eight people from two families died in the fire. They could not find their way out.'
Nady added that two others were seriously injured.
The inferno, which raged for two hours, was apparently caused by an electrical fault.
Nady said that more than 100 market stalls selling souvenirs were destroyed by the flames.
The popular night market, visited by tourists in the small provincial town, was closed when the fire broke out.
Siem Reap is the gateway to Cambodia's main tourist attraction, the ancient temple complex of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
