A third man was arrested on Thursday morning for his suspected involvement in a violent mob attack in Phnom Penh earlier this week, according to Kampong Thom Provincial Police.
An Phally, a 31-year-old tuk-tuk driver, was arrested after provincial police received a Phnom Penh Municipal Court warrant for his arrest, Deputy Provincial Police Chief Tith Samnang said.
“We arrested him this morning in Baray district, and he had escaped from Phnom Penh after police chased them,” Samnang said.
Phally was arrested a day after two others, Yath Tithya, 21, and An Vinty, 21, were apprehended in Tuol Kork in connection to the mob violence.
On Sunday, a group of men descended on a car driven by Suy Sareth, an English professor at the University of Cambodia, after his suspected involvement in a hit-and-run that injured a motorcyclist.
At least a dozen men in the group began punching, kicking and throwing large bricks at Sareth’s head. He was hospitalised and is recovering in Vietnam.
At least one of the most violent attackers – Pheach Kimhak, who was identified as a Daun Penh district security guard – has yet to be arrested.
The court warrant for Phally’s arrest alleges use of violence and causing damage to property.
