Khmer Circle: Ieng Sary is seen here behind Van Dong. Communist China's influence over Pol Pot-Ieng Sary's led guerrilla movement is evidenced by the presence of an unnamed Chinese envoy ["adviser"] seated in the boat behind Ieng Sary [wearing a cap], while Sihanouk was keen to court Hanoi's support in the same year in the fight against the US-backed Lon Nol regime in exchange of unprecedented favourable "concessions" extended to his new-found Vietnamese allies whom he would subsequently unflatteringly describe as "crocodiles". 

As if these lessons have not proved costly and nationally suicidal enough, the Hun Sen regime is treading the same path...
