(*) The political and judicial persecution of Sam Rainsy

I want to tell the puppet judges and the silly tribunal in Cambodia that it is completely useless to summon and prosecute me. The dictatorial and illegal Hun Sen regime, which is despised by the whole world, doesn’t gain anything from this political and judicial persecution. On the contrary, such persecution simply creates more international recognition of the cause of freedom and democracy in Cambodia. This is evidenced by the awards I have received from various institutions from countless democratic countries.

Democracy and Freedom Awards received by Sam Rainsy

1- From the European Parliament in 2001: "Passport for Freedom"

“The Passport for Freedom is a concrete affirmation of moral support from the European Parliament for the holders' efforts in defense of human rights and democracy. It is intended to help to shield the holders from harm or unfair treatment by governments opposed to their causes.”
Among Sam Rainsy's sponsors at the European Parliament in Brussels/Strasbourg: Mario Soares, former Prime Minister of Portugal.

2- From The Heritage Foundation (USA) in 2002: "Heritage Freedom Award"
“In recognition of Sam Rainsy’s brave struggle to bring democracy and freedom to the people of Cambodia.”

The award was presented to Sam Rainsy by US Senator John McCain.

3- From Liberal International (London-based worldwide political organisation) in 2006: "Prize for Freedom"
“Sam Rainsy has been Cambodia’s leading champion of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law for almost a decade. While he faces danger with his life, Sam Rainsy continues to fight to implement freedom and democracy in a dictatorial Cambodia.”

4- From the Spanish-based international women group "Dones Per La Libertat I La Democracia" (Women for Freedom and Democracy) in 2012: “Freedom Prize”

“The Prize is a reward for world figures who have been effectively defending human rights, especially those of women, children and ethnic minorities, and have helped preserve peoples' cultural identities.”

5- From the Senate of the US State of California in 2017: “Certificate of Recognition: Champion of Democracy and Father of Labor Unions in Cambodia”
“In honor of your outstanding accomplishments to building democracy and labor unions in Cambodia.”

6- From the Asia Human Rights and Peace Forum (South Korea) in 2019: "Champion of Democracy in Cambodia"

7- From World Without Genocide (USA) in 2019: “Human Rights Recognition Award”
“For outstanding dedication to promoting democracy and human rights for all Cambodians”.

8- From the US cities of Long Beach (California) and Lowell (Massachusetts): “Honorary Citizen” status.
