Khmer Circle:
Three million dead, an entire generation of the population traumatised with long term ill effects passed to succeeding generations, over a million more forced into cold exile overseas, but the country is dragged back to square one.
Cambodia may eventually lose all of the EU's EBA privileges, but - assuming the most basic of conditions had been adhered to, such as allowing democratic space and respecting civil and human rights - by then the country's economic recovery, infrastructure and development would have reached a level of self-sufficiency that would also have rendered such external trade stimuli and handouts a thing of the past. This is what invariably happens to a nation and its fate when its traitorous and self-seeking elite places its personal greed and interests ahead of the collective well-being of the citizens.
