The suspicion among many is that there are already Chinese military personnel currently stationed in various parts of Cambodia, particularly, in the Western regions near or close to the border with Thailand. There are apartment compounds and facilities built in close proximity to casinos where young Chinese [in civilian clothes] can be seen going to and from in small groups. Their youthful appearance and age range may suggest that gambling and casino might not be the real reasons why they are there.

The Vietnamese military huts and posts that have mushroomed in several locations on Cambodian soil along the Eastern border in recent weeks can also be seen as Hanoi's response to these developments in China's suspected and expected growth in military presence and movements in the country and region. 

Even without this kind of Chinese presence and influence in the country Hun Sen would have already been impotent enough in terms of thwarting Vietnam’s perennial land encroachments, but such a presence and move involving the Vietnamese’s own hereditary and historical foes could only embolden their imperial resolve and justify their age-old ambition of sabotaging Cambodia’s sovereignty – as they are indeed doing and have done since pre-colonial time.   🔺🔺🔺
