Military Police showcase fake uniforms, ID cards, stamps and documents confiscated after the arrest of six men in Tuol Kork. military police
Six suspects were held last week for posing as Military Police officers and running a fake recruitment scam from the capital’s Tuol Kork district, a public announcement said on Friday.
Military spokesperson Eng Hy said on Sunday the six – who claimed high ranks all the way up to Lieutenant General – were sent to military court on Saturday to face legal action.
A bevy of fake uniforms, military identification cards, stamps and documents were confiscated during their arrest.
Hy said the six will be charged and face between 15 and 30 years in jail for false recruiting, on top of using fake military identities, which could add an additional one month to one year to their sentences.
It was not confirmed how many would be charged with illegal military recruitment, nor how much money changed hands during the scam.
Hy assured, however, that the public should look sceptically on anyone thought to be recruiting for the Military Police.
“Currently we do not recruit people to fill in vacancies in the Military Police. If there is recruitment [in the future], we will inform the public,” he said.
