Cambodian opposition leader Kem Sokha has been found guilty of treason and sentenced to 27 years imprisonment to be silenced ahead of mid-year elections. The jailing of the 69-year-old veteran human rights activist came five years after he was arrested on allegations he colluded with a foreign power and his Cambodia National Rescue Party was dissolved, in what observers say is part of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s strategy to ensure smooth power transfer to his son and political heir, Hun Manet.
