Sexual abuse committed against minors and young adults is believed to leave permanent psychological scars upon the victims; a mental trauma or syndrome that may prove impossible to 'heal' in any conclusive, clinical  sense. Even the 'slightest' exposure to such experiences or contact of any sexual nature with an adult often means the victim's mental landscape and outlook could be profoundly and terminally disfigured as a consequence whereby the external world is perceived or captured through the dark lenses enforced by such encounters, and perceived objects are invariably distorted and colour-coded by memories of pain, betrayal, cruelties or violence that in turn contribute towards nurturing a life of distrust, alienation and self-imposed isolation or a general tendency to shun or refuse the general intercourse of society [School of Vice]
