NDO – Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Tong Thi Phong, has affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of treasuring and giving top priority to accelerating relations with neighbouring countries, including Cambodia, considering this as crucial to the development of the two nations.

Phong made the statement while hosting a reception in Hanoi on August 9 for First Vice-President of the Cambodian Senate, Ney Pena, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam from August 8 to 11.

She welcomed the guests, hailing their visit as a significant event among the activities marking 50 years of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties (June 24, 1967-2017), contributing to strengthening the friendly and neighbourly relations in addition to the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

During their talks, both sides informed each other of the political and socio-economic situation in their respective nation, as well as the economic, trade and investment ties between Vietnam and Cambodia in recent times.

The host suggested that the two countries maintain their relationships across the Party, State and people-to-people diplomacy channels; constantly facilitate friendship activities; and work together to combat the allegations distorting and dividing the relationship between two countries’ citizens.

She affirmed that the Vietnamese NA will continue working closely with the Cambodian parliament and Senate, whilst facilitating the expansion and enhancement of cooperation between the two Governments and peoples, as well as the collaboration between the two legislative bodies at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums, for the benefit of the citizens of both countries and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and around the world.

For his part, First Vice-President of the Cambodian Senate, Ney Pena, thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for constantly supporting Cambodia through its difficult moments, as well as in the country’s national construction and development process.

The guest affirmed his determination to preserve the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship, regarding it as an invaluable common asset of the two nations that needs to be passed on to the next generations.
