Manet says jailing of Sokha was warranted

Khmer Circle: It's an up-side down Kingdom where most things proceed in reverse directions. Even educated men and "scholars" could be transformed into incoherent yes-men demagogues and common scoundrels upon the most basic of material inducements or social patronage. If Kem Sokha has any substantiated evidence against him of having been given military assistance from, or been involved in any unconstitutional plot with foreign powers with the view to overthrowing the Phnom Penh regime, then the charge of "treason" would have been justified. However, if the assistance he had received had been limited to technical means and support with the sole aim of advancing the rule of law and the democratic agenda via peaceful, democratic or constitutional change, then the charge of 'treason' against him and his current detention are, in fact, the most reprehensible and insidious  act of treason against, not only him as an individual and a democrat, but the will of all the people of Cambodia which he and his party thrive to represent in substance and purpose...

In an interview with Radio France International in Paris on Monday, Hun Manet, Prime Minister Hun Sen’s eldest son, defended the arrest of opposition leader Kem Sokha, claiming the move did not weaken democracy, but strengthened it through rule of law.

Manet said the law did not target the opposition, but was created to protect the nation.

“For this Kem Sokha case, it is the implementation of law. Previously there was concern that the arrest might weaken the democracy. I think the law was created to protect the national interests and people’s interests. It is not for an individual or a politician,” he said on Monday.

Despite France’s condemnation of Sokha’s arrest, this is Manet’s second meeting with high-ranking French officials. The French Embassy has not responded to requests for comment.

Manet also spoke to CPP supporters in England, Switzerland and Germany, where he was sometimes met with protests.

Manet dismissed the protests as ineffective on Facebook.

“There is provocation of [the Cambodia National Rescue Party] activists who managed to gather about 50 protesters, but they could not prevent the meeting of 900 Cambodians,” he wrote of a gathering in France.

Political analyst Lao Mong Hay, however, said Manet’s comments did not reflect reality, “because the truth is that there is no [democracy]”.

“The multiparty democracy requires free and fair elections and political parties acting equally,” he said.

You should show your knowledge to Khmer people by saying the truth about Kem Sokha's arrest.

If this idiot SOB PhD moves to live in a western country, would any corporation give him a job to match his level of education?
He is worthless outside of Cambodia. He is a well educated man who cannot survive without his parents’ help. What’s a shame!

You have just insulted UK's Bristol University and USA's West Point. Have ever wondered why you don't have any good friend?

Based on Ah Leukeu Hun Manet's actions, he is not better than Ah Norouk Hun Sen.

For an independent media,RFI should or would have challenged Ah manet's answers or statement right on moral political or legal grounds on the political crack downs in Cambodia . It seems that Radio France International never did. If it did we don't see any evidence of it or otherwise. The question is,is RFI an independent news media organisation it claims to be? You'll be the judge.

Something to remember:

Here are Hun Sen's special talents:

Hun Sen was never afraid to kill Khmer people and to destroy Cambodia to please his master Yuon.
