Religion ministry mulls lawsuit against activist monk But Buntenh under lèse majesté

Khmer Circle

It appears fashionable among academics and news editors alike that any reference at all to the 'Vietnamese' by the Khmer people must be "derogatory" in nature and therefore condemned as a universal fault while the less than savoury social truths and facts relating to this ethnic group [not all of them by any means] to which the reference is made would rather be safely ignored and condoned instead.

Since when has it been deemed "derogatory" for anyone to point out or express concern over behaviours and activities of 'communities' or groups that negatively impact the well-being of society at large, be such activities belong to rotten Cambodian officials or polluting Vietnamese?!

It goes to show that all too often social conscience must invariably takes the back seat when it comes to pandering to political correctness - with more than a little dose of mendacity and self-righteousness for good effect.

With friends such as these...

The Ministry of Cults and Religion has said it will consider lodging a complaint against activist monk But Buntenh following his remarks that Cambodians, including the King, drink contaminated water.

Cambodian Youth Party President Pich Sros, who initially had said he was thinking about lodging a lawsuit for a breach of the newly introduced lèse majesté law, yesterday said he had turned to the Ministry of Cults and Religions to file it.

Seng Somony, spokesperson for the ministry, said he believed the case would be discussed in today’s annual meeting, along with “other wrongdoings” the monk had committed. The response could include legal action, he said.

In an interview with Radio Free Asia, published Tuesday night, Buntenh said that Prime Minister Hun Sen had granted Vietnamese settlers the right to live on the Tonle Sap river in exchange for the neighbour’s help in overthrowing the Khmer Rouge in 1979, and that they in turn had contaminated the water Cambodians drink with the waste from their floating settlements.

Carl Thayer, of the University of New South Wales, while condemning Buntenh’s comments for being derogatory toward the Vietnamese, said the new law “can be used as a legal weapon to go after opponents of the Hun Sen regime”.

Something to think about:

The evil Yuon and Hun Sen just dissolved the CNRP to prevent the CPP from losing big in this 2018 upcoming election.

If the other political parties are Khmer, except the CPP, they must boycott this next election.

The reason: Hun Sen and Yuon will destroy your party and its leaders if Hun Sen and Yuon see that your party is a real threat to the CPP.

For the time being, the solution is to take side with the CNRP and fight together for the reinstatement of the CNRP.

The participation of this next election without the CNRP is tantamount to an act of treason because you legitimize the seizure of power by Ah Kwack Hun Sen and Ah Kwen Heng Samrin, thus solidify the Vietnamization of Cambodia.

To the idiot above, why not side with other better parties such as GRD or LDP?

LDP is Ah Kwack's tool.
GRD: If this GRD is not blind, it should see that Ah Kwack can dissolve this GRD anytime Ah Kwack wanted to. It is a waste of time to join the election.
