The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has added 12 new wildlife species to a list of animals to be monitored in the Kingdom.
A document dated June 13 and obtained by The Post on Thursday said the list now contains the African elephant, four types of rhinoceros classified as endangered, and seven kinds of pangolin.
Deputy director and spokesman for the forestry administration, Keo Omalis, told The Post that the 12 identified wildlife species are not present in Cambodia.
“However, we need to classify and list them on our wildlife species list in order to effectively monitor, inspect, and crack down on all illegal animal trafficking in the country.
“If we don’t have the list, we cannot arrest the offenders for punishment,” he said.
