
Malaysia is postponing China-backed projects worth $22 billion. During a visit to Beijing, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed said the projects would “be deferred” until the debt-laden Southeast Asian nation can afford to pay for them. The projects, which include two gas pipelines and a railway, are part of China’s ambitious Belt and Road initiative – an international trade infrastructure program aimed at reviving Silk Road routes across the globe.
