"We do not think it is tenable for you to remain there”

"We do not think it is tenable for you to remain there”

The U.K. has urged Myanmar's former ambassador - representing the democratic government ousted in last year’s military coup - to leave the official London residence where he has remained after being sacked by the military, Reuters reports. Citing pressure from the junta, emails seen by Reuters, urge former ambassador Kyaw Zwar Minn to leave his home, adding that his presence creates legal problems for the U.K. and potential risks for its Myanmar staff.

Kyaw Zwar Minn declined to provide a comment to Reuters on the emails, and a spokesperson for the British Foreign Office commended his "brave stand in support of democracy,” adding that Britain had provided "significant support" for his life in the U.K. It appears that Kyaw Zwar Minn refused requests to leave, adding that he wanted to see deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi released from prison and a recognition of a “legitimate” government in Myanmar.
