Khmer Circle

Who can blame the signatories to the PPA for showing indifference towards their due attention and pledges or towards Hun Sen's demolition job on opposition parties and democracy in Cambodia when even Sihanouk himself could hardly wait for UN missions to pack up and go home in the wake of the only free and fair election in 1993?

Hun Sen's violations of the national constitution and persecutions of countless Khmers - nationalists and civil activists alike - alongside his systematic and blatant undermining of the PPA since then have been painful enough for the Khmer people, but all of these things mean also that his patrons to the East are at liberty to move the border markers and have their preferred treaty terms ratified at will - as they have done in recent centuries - as well as extracting whatever of value out of the country - such as timber and other economic assets - in total impunity.

In short, it is day-light robbery carried out under the cover of darkness - a classic ingredient of Vietnam's nam tien or southward expansion.

Still, the figure of the late god-king Sihanouk remains beyond reproach.

Samdach PORNG Hun Sen is smart at keeping his power at the expense of Khmer people and Cambodia. For instance, his execution of the K5 project, his signing of the 2005 supplemental treaty, his acceptance of the continued influx of the illegal Vietnamese into Cambodia, etc...

So go out and vote. This is what people on this site keep saying. Nothing has change even when people on this site knows the elections are rigged and there is nothing to vote for. Now they want to boycott the elections. The rebels in thailand, the Myanmar Junta, and taliban have more respect than Khmers. Even the Montagnard have more recognition than Khmer. They aren't doing nothing.
