This 102 year-old lady certainly has more moral courage in
speaking out against not only the injustices of the Hun regime, but the
systematic misinformation campaign that has been in the works against her
country from a number of quarters including Vietnamese authorities, the former
English language media outlets such as the Phnom Penh Post, and to a lesser
extent, the Cambodia Daily, the regional freelance writers as well as some
enlightened Khmers in the Diaspora be it owing to their blissful ignorance or
some other agendas. Here, and unlike them, this lady questions as to why one
must be risking imprisonment or worse for even mentioning the word
"Yuon" in referring to Vietnam or Vietnamese? Perhaps, due to her
advanced age she has not been able to keep herself up to date with all their
propaganda pieces or the modern social media technologies on offer?
Truth and humanity are not necessarily embedded in governments' agendas or
those of writers of their persuasions, and we are being reminded of that even more
cynically and cruelly in the face of these Western governments' stance
on atrocities and war crimes being committed against civilians in the
Palestine-Israel conflict.
