If China wanted to, could it not send its arms and troops on dry land anyway? Just as it had done during the war in the seventies via Kg Som port with Sihanouk's full co-operation in support of the Vietcongs in their fight to keep "the US imperialists" out of Indochina and, of course, away from China's borders? 

The canal's lock system and network should ensure the Mekong's existing dynamics and health remain as it is. 

The so-called "experts" who urge Vietnam to ask Cambodia to delay the construction of the proposed canal out of 'concerns for the environment' or anything else should also urge Vietnam to stop felling  trees and decimating forests in Cambodia which it has been actively doing over the last 40 years to devastating effects on lives and the environment.
