Khmer Circle:
The King should also issue a public statement condemning the charges against and imprisonment of youth environmental activists who more than anyone else exemplify the letter and spirit of his royal proposal. At any rate, he should publicly refute the charge of 'insult' against his person on which the youths are being held in captivity so that his subjects are clear in their understanding as to his actual concerns and intentions towards them.
We also know it could take generations even for a forest to re-grow and renew itself so calling on people to replant trees while the existing forests are being decimated and the land needed to have those trees planted are being signed off as concessions to private interests and logging barons is a non-starter!
If one is positioned in a public role as prominent and prestigious as the king of the nation and yet opting to stay silent whist even his name is invoked to justify the crimes carried out in his name, or to silence the innocents who stand up at great personal costs against these enormous crimes then he himself is complicit in the commission or perpetration of the crimes and he is thus no longer fit to be considered King.
The King even signed the royal decrees bestowing respectable titles and important
government appointments upon the known culprits behind the destruction of the
environment in the last 40 years.
