Those die-hard "Sihanoukists" or royalists [spurious or otherwise] will do well to note that the late autocratic ruler had also used his loyalists and henchmen to attack and intimidate his critics and political opponents by pretty much the same methods of street thuggery and public humiliation. 

One such victim of this extra-judicial tactic is Khieu Samphan, once a member in Sihanouk's ruling cabinet and later emerged as Democratic Kampuchea's nominal President or Head of State who currently stands accused of crimes against humanity before the KRT. 

On remarkably similair note of coincidence and repetition, some individuals [including former political associates of Sihanouk such as Sam Sary who happens to be Sam Rainsy's father] and who reportedly favoured a pro-US stance in foreign policy - among other political dissidents - had also been charged with having committed "national treason". 

So, Kem Sokha's current unhappy fate as a chief "traitor" for his pro-US and pro-democracy platform is not without precedents.
