Khmer Circle:
It's widely known that whenever cases involving land dispute
arise, local authorities - more likely than not = stand on the side of
'investors' and influential individuals with links to the most powerful office
in the country: the Prime Minister(s). Until this corruption and network is
reformed or addressed, asking local authorities to sort out local issues of
this kind and prevent protestors from taking the long road to the capital in
the hope of airing their grievances and having them ameliorated there will only
increase the likelihood of more abuse and violence against the aggrieved
parties.
In fact, the PM himself could lead by example by working towards resolving similiar disputes closer to home in the capital such as the annual devastating floods caused by granting companies permission to fill up lakes that have acted as reserviors for the capital's irrigation or the on-going workers' dispute with the Nagaworld casino.
