Things must be really bad in Cambodia under this Hun regime for France to raise her objection in this manner. During the struggle against Vietnam's occupation of the country the French more or less put their weight behind the Hanoi-installed Phnom Penh regime rather than the anti-Vietnam resistance that included two non-Communist factions led by former Prime Minister - Son San - and Sihanouk. Son San himself reportedly expressed his bewilderment over France's diplomatic stance at the time, saying 'I am a French-educated Cambodian and I know of France's resistance against Nazi occupation of France'.
In a way France's attitude towards Cambodia has hardly changed since colonial days and it has been noted by Cambodia historians that in matters of territorial disputes - in particular with Cambodia's predatory neighbour Vietnam - the French tended to lean in the latter's favour. France has of course contributed heavily towards the country's post-war recovery, especially, in humanitarian spheres but, far less constructive, in our opinion, in political relations. After all, even Hun Sen - who has ruled the country with his bloody iron fists and his spouse - known to have been behind the killing of a love rival - have been feted by a former president of France in Paris not too long ago. RFI - a state-owned radio of France - has been a strong mouthpiece for the Phnom Penh regime and a staunch critic of the democratic oppositions, particularly; the main political party led by another French-educated Cambodian - Sam Rainsy. In fact, a known chief of the radio broadcaster has recently joined forces with Hun Sen and publicly defended the so-called CLV Triangle Development scheme where Vietnam would be placed firmly in the driving seat politically, economically and demographically.

ជាមួយគ្នានេះប្រទេសបារាំងអំពាវនាវឱ្យអាជ្ញាធរធានានូវសេរីភាពបញ្ចេញមតិរបស់ប្រជាពលរដ្ឋ និងអ្នកសារព័ត៌មាន ដោយពិនិត្យក្រមព្រហ្មទណ្ឌកម្ពុជាឡើងវិញ ដោយអនុលោមតាមអនុសាសន៍របស់ខ្លួនធ្វើឡើងក្នុងអំឡុងនៃការពិនិត្យឡើងវិញ ជាសាកលតាមកាលកំណត់លើកទី៤នូវកំណត់ត្រាសិទ្ធិមនុស្សរបស់កម្ពុជា ឬUPR។

លោកឯកអគ្គរដ្ឋទូតបារាំងក៏លើកឡើងពីក្ដីបារម្ភអំពីការចាប់ខ្លួនសមាជិកអង្គការសង្គមស៊ីវិលកាលពីពេលថ្មីៗនេះ ក៏ដូចជាការដាក់សម្ពាធលើអង្គការក្រៅរដ្ឋាភិបាលជាច្រើនដែរ។

The ROOT cause of the problem was that Hun Sen stole the power from Khmer people. People did not vote for him.
He is so worry and paranoid that Khmer people would revolt and bring him down, which prompt him to lunch a preemptive strike by arbitrarily arresting and incarcerating any Khmers who dare to criticize him.
There was a Khmer saying: Kor Kmao Dombao Knong, Kaek Heu Romlorng Romsay Kantuy.
