Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, will visit Cambodia on Thursday. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with senior Cambodian leaders and engage in discussions to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

In an announcement yesterday, the General Secretariat of the National Assembly of Cambodia said that Man will visit Cambodia from Thursday to Sunday at the invitation of Cambodia’s National Assembly President Khuon Sudary.

According to the National Assembly, the purpose of the Vietnamese delegation’s visit is to strengthen and expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. The goal is to deepen and broaden bilateral ties, with a focus on prioritising the interests of the people on both sides.

Leng Penglong, Secretary-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia, said that during his visit, Man and his delegation will hold working discussions with Sudary. He added that Man will pay homage to the King and meet with Hun Sen, President of the Senate, as well as Prime Minister Hun Manet for courtesy meetings.

Kin Phea, Director-General of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia (IRIC) at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said that from 1979 to the present, relations between Cambodia and Vietnam in the field of national defence and related fields have been extremely close and deep. “In terms of politics, we see leaders of the Senate, the National Assembly, the government and the ruling party of the two countries exchange official visits frequently,” Phea said.

The report showed that from January to September, Cambodia exported $2.72 billion worth of products to Vietnam, a year-on-year increase of 33.8 percent while imported $3.09 billion from Vietnam, up 13 percent.

Vietnam is the second biggest export market for Cambodia’s products, mainly raw materials of agricultural products.
